Making History for Caregiving Youth – And We’re Just Getting Started!
A Historic Moment for Texas: Declaring February 14th as Caregiving Youth Awareness Day!
February 14, 2025, will forever be one of the most meaningful days of my life. 💙 This Valentine’s Day wasn’t just about chocolates and flowers—it was about love, recognition, and advocacy for young caregivers across the country. I had the honor of accepting official proclamations from Governor Greg Abbott, Senator Pete Flores, and Austin Mayor Kirk Watson, declaring February 14th as Caregiving Youth Awareness Day! 🎉
For far too long, caregiving youth have been invisible in conversations about healthcare, education, and family support. But not anymore! This proclamation is a huge step toward giving young caregivers the recognition and resources they deserve.
Why This Matters
Every day, millions of kids and teens help take care of family members who are aging, sick, or living with disabilities. They juggle homework, friendships, sports, and caregiving responsibilities, often without any support. It’s time to change that!
I know firsthand what it’s like to grow up as a caregiving youth, and that’s why I’ve made it my mission to raise awareness, advocate for resources, and connect young caregivers with the support they need. This proclamation is proof that our voices matter—and this is just the beginning!
Spreading the Word with KXAN, Yahoo News & More!
The impact of this milestone reached even further than I ever imagined! My advocacy was featured on KXAN News, Yahoo News, and more, where I shared my personal story and highlighted why this cause is so important. You can check out my KXAN interview here: Watch Now!
It was surreal to see this issue gaining the attention it deserves. This coverage is helping to start conversations, inspire change, and connect young caregivers to the support they need.
What’s Next?
While this proclamation is a HUGE step forward, it’s only the beginning. We need more awareness, more policies, and more support for caregiving youth. I will continue using my voice to advocate for real change, and I hope you’ll join me in this movement!
