A Milestone: My First Leander ISD Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council Meeting
I’m so grateful to the American Association of Caregiving Youth (AACY) for highlighting my work in their recent Treasure Talk newsletter. Their recognition not only celebrates my journey, but also helps amplify the important mission of shining a light on caregiving youth across the country.

A Milestone: My First Leander ISD Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council
This week, I participated in my very first meeting as a member of the Leander ISD Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council. It was inspiring to sit alongside other student leaders from across the district and share ideas on how to make our schools even stronger.
One of the best parts of the day was connecting with a peer whose passion is food allergy awareness. This immediately reminded me of the current Miss America’s Teen, Tess Ferm, whose national platform is centered on food allergy education and advocacy. Her initiative, “From Fear to Freedom,” grew from her own experiences with severe allergies and is raising awareness across schools, communities, and even legislatures nationwide.
Meeting peers who care deeply about different issues reminded me that leadership takes many forms — but when we connect those efforts, we create lasting change.
Why AACY’s Recognition Matters
When AACY shared news of my appointment to the Advisory Council, it connected my local role in Leander ISD with the national conversation about caregiving youth. Their support reminds me that I am part of a much bigger movement — one that uplifts students who balance school with caregiving responsibilities at home.
AACY’s Treasure Talk newsletter offers stories, resources, and encouragement for caregiving youth everywhere. It’s a reminder that none of us are alone in this journey, and that our voices can make a real difference when we come together.
Looking Ahead
I will continue sharing my perspective as a caregiving youth with leaders in my school district.
I’m excited to support peers like Tess Ferm and other student leaders who are making health challenges less invisible.
And I remain deeply thankful to AACY for recognizing my work and helping to shine a spotlight on caregiving youth nationwide.
Thank you for walking alongside me on this journey — together, we can build stronger schools and communities where every student feels seen and supported.
