Stepping Into the Spotlight: My Journey to Miss Texas Teen
Hi friends,
I’m so excited to share some big news — I’ve decided to compete for Miss Texas Teen! My first step on this journey is competing for Miss Austin’s Teen this November. This opportunity means so much to me, not only as a personal challenge, but as a platform to shine a light on something I care deeply about.
For those who don’t know me, my platform is advocating for Caregiving Youth — kids and teens who, like me, help care for a loved one at home. Too often, these young people are unseen and unheard, even though their responsibilities are huge. I’ve met incredible Caregiving Youth who juggle school, activities, and caregiving with so much strength. I want to bring their stories into the spotlight.
I am also deeply devoted to my community here in Austin. Living in Travis County, I’ve spent countless hours advocating for Caregiving Youth with the Austin City Council, working alongside the Austin Department of Health, and connecting with leaders at UT Austin. My heart is in this city, and I’m grateful for the chance to represent it on this journey.
Competing for Miss Austin’s Teen — and, hopefully, one day Miss Texas Teen — gives me a stage to share that message with more people. It’s not about crowns or sashes (though, yes, they sparkle ✨) — it’s about raising awareness, building community, and showing other Caregiving Youth that they are not alone.
This journey is also personal. Competing pushes me to be more confident, to step outside of my comfort zone, and to embrace leadership in a whole new way. I know it won’t always be easy, but I’m ready to put in the work, grow through the challenges, and celebrate every step along the way.
Thank you to everyone who has supported me — my family, friends, coaches, and mentors. I can’t wait to share this experience with all of you and hopefully make Austin and Texas proud.
Here’s to courage, kindness, and a whole lot of sparkle! 💫
With love,
Madeline Grace Asbell
